Hotels Making Gadgets and Gizmos Feel Welcome For the last several years, the drum beat from hotels on the technology front was high speed internet access in guestrooms (followed closely after by wireless internet access). No wonder, everyone needs to stay connected to the office and home while on the road. But, now that the needs of our venerable laptop have been addressed, what about some of our other peripherals? According to David Pellot, an ABC News travel writer, the race is on to totally rewire the guestroom.

LodgeNet Entertainment Corp has recently begun trial running a new LaunchPad device which acts as a master docking station for rooms equipped with HDTV. Guests can stream photos from the digital cameras, run iPod videos, or plug in their laptop to play a DVD. Other new devices include “an iPod docking station that can be controlled with the room remote control, and a service called Entertainment 2Go that allows guests to download full-length movies legally to their laptops.” Hyatt and Sheraton hotels are both trialing versions of these devices.

Now I have a whole new set of distractions to keep me from checking in at the office.
